In the past couple of years African Hedgehogs have become an increasingly popular pet here in America. One of the things that has struck me as interesting is that other species of Hedgehog haven't entirely crossed over from England to be bred in America very much. I've heard rumors of Egyptian Long-Eared Hedgehogs being bred here in America, but haven't really seen any confirmation of much. Same with Desert Hedgehogs.

Beyond the disease that spread when Egyptian Hedgehogs were imported in the 90s that wiped out several herds - why haven't there been more experimenting? Especially when Desert Hedgehogs supposedly fare much better in captivity and are generally friendlier than African Hedgehogs tend to be?
